Gray Reed was involved in the 17th largest verdict in the southwest according to Texas Lawyer's annual list of the Top Verdicts & Settlements of the Southwest, which consists of Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas. The case, Pruitt v. Asphalt Zipper Inc., involved a former Falls County employee who almost lost a foot when a 2,200-pound piece of construction equipment fell on him.
Gray Reed was retained by the plaintiff's trial team to provide appellate expertise in the serious personal injury case. The case was tried to a jury in Waco Federal Court with 17 witnesses in just over 2 days. The jury came back in less than 3 hours with a $4 million plaintiff verdict. At the time, the verdict was believed to be one of the largest, if not the largest, jury verdicts in a civil case in the Waco division of the federal Western District of Texas, court officials said.
Gray Reed attorneys involved included Greg White, Max Brown and Drake Rayshell.
The rankings are based on research by NLJ’s VerdictSearch, the recognized leader in U.S. verdict information. The full list will be published in the July issue of Texas Lawyer.
