Gray Reed Attorney Receives Dallas Bar Association’s Probate, Trusts & Estates Section 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award

Gray Reed congratulates Norm Lofgren on receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Dallas Bar Association Probate, Trusts & Estates Section. The award, given only every two years to members who have distinguished themselves in probate, trust or estate law practice, recognizes Lofgren's exceptional contributions to legal education, service to the bar, legislative activities, court advocacy and community involvement.

"Norm exemplifies the qualities we most admire in our profession – expertise, integrity and a genuine commitment to serving others," Greg Sampson, a Gray Reed lawyer who introduced Lofgren at the award presentation, says. "He's dedicated himself not only to exceptional client work, but to teaching, mentoring young attorneys, and giving back to our community. He serves as both a trusted counselor to his clients and a generous mentor to his profession. That well-rounded dedication makes him truly deserving of this recognition."

Lofgren's distinguished career spans multiple fields of service, beginning with his military service as a Navy pilot where he attained the rank of Captain before retiring from the Reserves. This foundation of leadership and discipline has informed his approach throughout his legal career, from his early work as a trial lawyer for the Internal Revenue Service to his role as tax counsel for a major international energy company.

At Gray Reed, Lofgren brings a unique combination of estate planning and litigation expertise to his practice. With both a JD and an LLM in tax law, he focuses his practice on helping clients build and protect their businesses, minimize tax exposure and preserve wealth across generations. His clients include domestic and international closely-held businesses, high-net-worth families, entrepreneurs and professionals who rely on his guidance for complex estate, tax and business planning matters.

Among his notable achievements, Lofgren served as lead counsel in the pivotal Strangi cases involving Family Limited Partnerships, establishing important precedent in estate planning law. He has been recognized as a D Magazine Best Lawyer in Dallas, Texas Super Lawyer, Best Lawyer in America and a 5-Star Estate Planner.

Beyond his legal practice, Lofgren has demonstrated sustained commitment to community service. He previously served as Chair of the Dallas Bar Association Probate, Trusts & Estates Section and has dedicated many years as a Director of the Baylor Scott & White Health Care System Foundation and Communities Foundation Advisory Council.

As a sought-after speaker, Lofgren has presented at local, statewide, and national conferences on tax and estate planning topics. He is also known for his mentorship of younger attorneys, generously sharing his knowledge and expertise with the next generation of legal professionals.
