Two Gray Reed Attorneys Earn Board Certification in Estate Planning & Probate Law

Gray Reed Counsel Isreal Miller and Associate Scott Bayer passed the 2021 Texas Board of Legal Specialization’s (TBLS) Estate Planning & Probate Law exam. The firm now has a total of 8 trust & estate attorneys who are Board Certified by the TBLS.

“I’m really excited for Isreal and Scott,” Trusts & Estates Department Chair Glen Eichelberger says. “They were already rising leaders in our department but the board certification strengthens their practice and gives clients and prospective clients even more confidence in their ability to handle estate planning and probate matters.”

Miller advises individuals and families on all aspects of tax-efficient estate planning and wealth preservation, from sophisticated planning for wealthy individuals and families with numerous assets and business interests to simple wills for clients with smaller estates. He also guides executors and family members through every phase of uncontested will probates and in estate administration, including asset gathering and appraisal, payment of debts, filing estate tax returns and distributions to beneficiaries. In addition to being Board Certified in Estate Planning and Probate Law, Miller is Board Certified in Tax Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, a Certified Public Accountant, a Certified Financial Planner™ practitioner and a Personal Financial Specialist.

Bayer helps high-net-worth individuals and families develop trust and estate planning strategies to protect considerable assets and business interests, preserve and transfer wealth, achieve their charitable goals, and minimize estate and gift taxes. He has substantial experience preparing wealth transfer agreements tailored to each client’s unique needs and objectives, including wills, revocable trusts, generation-skipping transfer trusts and a variety of other sophisticated estate planning techniques.

Gray Reed has a total of 32 Board Certified attorneys across several areas of law including Bankruptcy; Civil Appellate; Civil Trial; Commercial Real Estate; Estate Planning & Probate; Family Law; Health; Labor & Employment; Oil, Gas and Mineral Law; and Tax.

TBLS Board Certification is a voluntary designation program certifying Texas attorneys in 25 specific areas of law. Out of 110,000 lawyers that are licensed to practice in Texas, only 7,200 are Board Certified. These lawyers have voluntarily applied for Board Certification, have a minimum of five years of practice experience (with at least three years in specific legal areas), completed at least 60 hours of continuing legal education hours and passed a rigorous exam. Once certified, these lawyers meet additional criteria to continue their education and involvement in their specialty area as well as reapply for Board Certification every five years.
