Gray Reed Tax Attorney Selected for Leadership in CPA Societies

(Houston) – Gray Reed & McGraw tax and corporate associate Austin Carlson is taking new leadership roles in two of Texas’ largest accounting organizations. Carlson was recently elected to the Board of Directors for both the Texas Society of CPAs (three year term lasting from 2015-2018) and Houston Society of CPAs (two year term from 2015-2017).

Working on the Texas Society of CPAs Board of Directors will enable Carlson to take an active role in shaping the direction and activities of one of the nation’s largest professional organizations.  Carlson also serves on the influential Federal Tax Policy committee which helps shape tax law by providing comments and recommendations to the IRS.

The TSCPA serves as a resource for advancing the profession of accounting for its 27,000 members. They do this by offering 500 continuing education programs each year, by offering a peer review program for CPA licensing and by staying active within governmental affairs.

In his role on the Board of Directors of the Houston Society of CPAs, Austin will be coordinating director for the Membership Development Committee, which oversees the orientation of new members into the Society and development of existing members.  He previously served as chair of committee and was award Co-Committee Chair of the Year for his service.

The Houston Society of CPAs has been the primary organization for accountants in Harris and the 12 surrounding counties since 1928.
