Gray Reed Partner Jason Brookner was one of 72 professionals recognized at The Turnaround Management Association (TMA)’s 2017 Turnaround and Transaction of the Year Awards on October 23, 2017, in Fort Worth, Texas.
Since 1993, TMA has honored excellence through its annual awards program, which recognizes the most successful turnarounds and impactful transactions. This year’s winners saved countless jobs and made a significant economic impact, both locally and globally.
Brookner was honored for his role in the Life Partners Holdings, Inc. case, which received the "Turnaround of the Year: Large Company" award.
The Life Partners case is notable, as it converted a massive fraudulent scheme to a legitimate enterprise, preserving the asset portfolio to run off in the ordinary course, against the odds of what was expected by many to be a liquidation at pennies on the dollar.
In the case, Brookner represented Vida Capital, Inc., as DIP lender, post-confirmation policy servicer and investor account administrator, and provider of exit financing.
Brookner has substantial experience representing and advising companies, buyers, creditors, trustees, committees, lenders and other constituents in all aspects of distressed, insolvency and restructuring scenarios. Praised by clients and peers in Chambers & Partners USA as "an exceptional bankruptcy attorney,” “easy to work with and great with people,” and recommended for his “practical and diligent approach," he has been selected by Chambers as one of the leading lawyers in bankruptcy/restructuring in Texas every year since 2005. Brookner received his J.D. from the Hofstra University School of Law, and attended the State University of New York at Binghamton for his undergraduate education.
