After graduating from Texas Tech University School of Law, Shanks clerked for Justice Paul Green at the Supreme Court of Texas, gaining valuable and unique insight into the behind-the-scenes of high-stakes litigation and in shaping Texas state jurisprudence. She also served as Judge Scott Everett's first term-law clerk at the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas.

D Magazine's 2025 Best Lawyers Under 40 list is determined through a peer‐review voting process, with ballots submitted by thousands of area lawyers. The final list was compiled by an independent panel of distinguished attorneys working in conjunction with the magazine's editors, according to the publication.
