Colin Cox focuses his practice on all aspects of commercial real estate matters. He represents developers, purchasers, sellers, borrowers, lenders and other stakeholders in transactions involving acquisitions and dispositions across Texas and nationwide. 

Colin also works with landlords and tenants across Texas and nationwide, negotiating and preparing leases for a wide range of properties, including office, retail, industrial and large national commercial sites. With experience across countless leasing scenarios, Colin brings practical perspective to complex leasing matters.

For almost three years, Colin served as an associate counsel in the legal department of Weingarten Realty Investors, a real estate investment trust listed on the New York Stock Exchange. His in-house experience gives him valuable perspective on the business considerations behind real estate transactions and helps him anticipate issues early while working toward efficient solutions.

Representative Experience

Acquisitions, Dispositions and Lending Transactions

  • Represented a privately held commercial real estate company in the acquisition and disposition of shopping centers across the country.
  • Represented a retail and wholesale fuel distribution and convenience store business in the acquisition of company-owned and operated convenience stores.
  • Represented a commercial developer in the acquisition of approximately 494 acres in Harris County, Texas.
  • Represented the seller of 25 liquid energy terminals located along the Atlantic Coast, in the Southeast and in Texas.
  • Represented a regional real estate developer in acquiring and developing land in Texas for medical and restaurant uses.
  • Represented buyers and sellers in numerous sale-leaseback transactions.
  • Represented lenders in reviewing title and survey matters for real estate assets serving as collateral for loans.

Commercial Leasing

  • Represented one of the largest commercial real estate developers in Texas as landlord in leases with national retail tenants.
  • Represented landlords in negotiating and drafting shopping center leases, including ground leases and in-line leases with national and regional tenants across Texas and nationwide.
  • Represented landlords and tenants in negotiating and drafting office and industrial leases.
  • Represented a large real estate investment trust in leasing retail space in the Houston area.
  • Represented a tenant in negotiating the lease of 376,000 rentable square feet of industrial space from a national industrial REIT.
  • Advised landlords and tenants on lease enforcement matters, including default notices, termination agreements and settlement agreements.
  • Conducted due diligence on restrictive covenants, exclusive uses and development restrictions affecting retail properties and shopping centers.
