Gray Reed Elects Five New Shareholders

Gray Reed & McGraw announces the election of five attorneys as shareholders. The attorneys elected are: Amy Allen, Clint Brown, Jennifer Gurevitz, Ashley Johnston and Joe Virene.

Amy Allen, Houston, Family Law – Ms. Allen focuses her practice on family law and is board certified in family law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Her specialty includes premarital agreements, divorce proceedings, marital property valuation and characterization, child custody, modifications of court orders, enforcement actions, adoptions and other child related issues, including CPS and Amicus appointments.  Before joining Gray Reed, Ms. Allen worked with various public and private organizations, in conjunction with the Harris County Family Court Judges, court personnel and volunteers, assisting families and children involved in emotionally charged divorces and court proceedings. She received her B.S. from The University of Texas and her J.D. from the University of Houston Law Center.

Clint Brown, Dallas, Family Law – Mr. Brown focuses his practice on family law and is board certified in family law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. His specialty includes family law litigation, collaborative law, amicus and ad litem appointments, paternity suits, grandparent access suits, premarital and marital agreements, agreements for same-sex cohabitation, contractual agreements for surrogate parenting arrangements, and the adoption of children. Mr. Brown is an active member of both the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals and the Collaborative Law Institute of Texas. Mr. Brown received his B.B.A. and B.A. in Econometric Studies from Southern Methodist University. He earned his J.D. in 2006 from SMU's Dedman School of Law.

Jennifer Gurevitz, Dallas, Tax – Ms. Gurevitz has more than 10 years of tax law experience structuring business joint ventures among partners for small to midsize companies. She has an extensive background in handling and structuring business transactions, partnership and corporate tax planning and corporate governance in a variety of areas. Ms. Gurevitz brings extensive tax planning experience to these transactions to ensure the transaction is structured in the most tax-efficient manner, including regularly addressing equity compensation issues.  In addition to her experience in partnership and corporate tax planning, she also practices civil tax controversy and resolution, as well as estate planning, and has extensive experience in non-profit organization and governance. She received her B.B.A. in accounting and her M.P.A in accounting with an emphasis in tax from the University of Texas; her J.D. from the University of Florida; and her LL.M. in taxation from New York University. She is also a licensed CPA.

Ashley Johnston, Dallas, Healthcare – Board certified in Health Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, Ms. Johnston’s practice focuses on health care and corporate transactional matters. She advises clients on the formation and reorganization of business entities, mergers and acquisitions, purchase and sale of corporate stock and assets, physician/hospital contracts, physician joint ventures and facility licensure and accreditation. She has extensive experience drafting and negotiating a variety of contracts including, physician services agreements, physician employment agreements, asset purchase agreements, development and management agreements, business associate agreements and entity operating agreements.  Ashley also works with clients on a wide array of transactional, operational and regulatory matters. She graduated with a B.A. from Duke University and a J.D. from SMU Dedman School of Law.

Joe Virene, Houston, Litigation – Mr. Virene represents suppliers, distributors, subcontractors, engineers, general contractors and service companies in both the construction and oil and gas industries. He has successfully prosecuted and defended various claims including those related to: construction defects, M&M liens, mineral liens, the Texas Construction Trust Fund Act, covenants not to compete, trade secrets, breach of fiduciary duty, products liability, security interests, and the UCC.  He has also defended numerous clients from preferential and fraudulent transfer claims arising out of bankruptcy.  In addition to litigation, Mr. Virene routinely drafts, reviews, and negotiates construction contracts, master service agreements, master purchase agreements, terms and conditions, covenants not to compete and nondisclosure agreements. He graduated with a B.S. from The University of Texas and a J.D. from the University of Houston Law Center.
