Kidney Foundation Presents Gift of Life Award

Gray Reed & McGraw attorney Andy Meyercord and his wife Megan were recognized as honorary chairs of The National Kidney Foundation's Bonne Santé, a food and wine showcase on March 8 at the Westin Galleria Dallas. During the event, the foundation presented the Gift of Life Award to Andy's sister Martha Meyercord Wilson. The Gift of Life Award is presented to people who advance the cause of the National Kidney Foundation and transplants. Martha donated a kidney to her brother Andy in 1997 and continues to be a strong advocate of transplantation.

The Meyercords share a dedication to the cause and the foundation. In 1997, the day before Andy's kidney transplant, Megan attended her first Women's luncheon. She has served on the board since then and was president of KidneyTexas Inc. in 2011. The National Kidney Foundation's Camp Reynal, which is designed to provide a week of normalcy for children with kidney and urological diseases, is close to her heart.

Andy practices health care law as a shareholder at Gray Reed and has advised hospitals, physician groups and other health care providers for more than 25 years. Two of the host chefs for the event, Scott Gottlich, executive chef of Bijoux and The Second Floor Bistro & Bar, and William A. Koval, executive chef of Lakewood Country Club, are familiar with kidney disease as well. Gottlich's sister Stephanie is a transplant recipient, and Koval's son Nathan was born with only one kidney, so his family leaned heavily on the National Kidney Foundation to get through that difficult time.

Proceeds from the second annual National Kidney Foundation Bonne Santé will be used to benefit kidney patient education/programs in the North Texas area.
