Gray Reed Announces Promotions

Gray Reed is proud to announce that Jill Bindler and David DeZern have been elected as new partners, effective January 1, 2019. Also, Elise Barajas and Angela Brown have been promoted to counsel, Alex Uber has been promoted to associate and Michael Blachly has been promoted to chief marketing officer.

Bindler is the firm’s go-to advisor on all aspects of e-discovery in litigation and investigations involving complex, high-volume document production obligations. She guides litigation teams and client legal and IT departments through every phase of the e-discovery process, from document preservation and collection to review and production.

DeZern focuses his practice on guiding both plaintiffs and defendants through every stage of patent litigation matters, from initial evaluation, pleadings, and fact and expert discovery to claim construction, trial and appeals. He has successfully resolved challenging cases involving a variety of technologies, including telecommunications, software, electronic design automation and video coding. Prior to attending law school, DeZern gained electrical engineering experience as an intern at Dell Computer, Freese & Nichols, National Instruments and Lockheed Martin Aeronautics.

Barajas is a collaborative dealmaker and ongoing advisor in a variety of healthcare transactional, operational and compliance matters. She has guided clients through numerous healthcare and strategic transactions, with a primary focus on complex acquisitions and sales on behalf of both sellers and buyers. Barajas represents a diverse group of healthcare clients throughout Texas and Oklahoma, including acute care hospitals, joint venture hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, physician practices, dental practices, optometrists, long-term care facilities, ancillary providers, clinically integrated networks and many more. She is Board Certified in Health Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

Brown focuses her practice on white-collar criminal and regulatory matters before federal courts and government agencies. She defends corporate and individual clients in high-stakes investigations, civil enforcement actions and criminal proceedings brought by a variety of federal and state regulators, primarily involving allegations of healthcare fraud, securities fraud, insider trading, FCPA violations, tax fraud, pay-to-play schemes and antitrust violations. Before joining the firm, Brown was a professor of law at Texas Tech University School of Law and focused her teaching and scholarship on matters of federal civil procedure, evidence and legal writing.

Uber focuses his practice on patent litigation prosecution and defense; patent and trademark strategic planning, prosecution and licensing; and trademark and trade secret litigation. He is a registered patent attorney with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Blachly provides Gray Reed strategic direction on the firm’s business development and marketing initiatives and leads a team responsible for business development, marketing/branding, marketing technology, creative production, research, public relations and events.

“It’s always rewarding to recognize those who have considerably contributed to the overall success of our firm,” Gray Reed Managing Partner Cary Gray says. “We look forward to continued contributions from Jill, David, Elise, Angela, Alex and Michael in the years to come.”
