At a public hearing on Nov. 14, 2018, the Dallas City Council approved QuikTrip’s proposal to build and maintain a portion of the Bachman Creek Greenbelt Park near the intersection of Northwest Highway and Lemmon Avenue in Dallas, Texas.
QuikTrip owns the land at Northwest Highway and Lemmon, and plans to build a gas station on it. In exchange for shared parking, QuikTrip proposed funding, building and maintaining a park that will provide easier access to the trail system at Bachman Creek Greenbelt, a 58.4 acre park established in 1930.
The QuikTrip first presented its proposal to the Dallas City Council in spring 2016. While the proposal initially was met with concern from residents that the park might lead to homeless encampments, drug sales and criminal activity. Gray Reed attorney Matt Sanderson assuaged these concerns and led negotiations with the city regarding the proposed improvements.
“We are excited about the city’s decision to partner with QuikTrip and move forward with improving this portion of the Bachman Greenbelt,” Sanderson said. “We believe it will be an enjoyable asset to our community and its residents for years to come.”
This portion of the Greenbelt will feature landscaping, bike racks, benches, a water fountain, a curved concrete walkway to Bachman Creek Greenbelt Trail, a new trail with lights and, most conveniently, an additional lane on Lemmon Avenue at the intersection to improve traffic control.
