Gray Reed Secures Complete Defense Verdict for LGI Homes in Tarrant County Trial

Gray Reed successfully secured a complete defense verdict on behalf of its client, LGI Homes, following five years of litigation and a nearly two-week jury trial in Tarrant County District Court.

LGI Homes, a national homebuilder known for developing communities for first-time homebuyers, faced water code violation and negligence claims brought in 2021 by the owners of five properties adjacent to the Oak Ridge subdivision in Fort Worth.

The plaintiffs alleged that LGI Homes’ development and construction activities at the Oak Ridge subdivision caused runoff and sediment to enter their properties, resulting in a significant diminution in property value. After hearing the evidence presented during trial, the Tarrant County jury returned a verdict finding no liability against LGI Homes on all claims.

The jury reached its decision in less than three hours.

Gray Reed Partners Gabe Vick and J.J. Hardig, along with associates Justin Cowan and Kendall Hudgins, represented LGI Homes throughout the trial.

“This result reflects the team’s thorough preparation, strategic advocacy and commitment to achieving successful outcomes for our clients,” said J.J. Hardig, Gray Reed’s Civil Litigation Practice Group Leader.

Gray Reed is proud to have represented LGI Homes in this significant victory.
