Gray Reed Establishes Chief Innovation Officer Position, Appoints Skyler Stuckey to Role to Lead Firmwide Innovation Strategy
Gray Reed is proud to announce the creation of a Chief Innovation Officer (CIO) position and the appointment of Skyler Stuckey, a partner in the firm's Dallas office and a member of the Business & Commercial Litigation Section, to serve in the role. The appointment builds on Gray Reed's commitment to pairing top-tier legal services with forward-looking business solutions for clients, a commitment reflected in unique offerings like Gray Reed Advisory and GRPR, the consultancy’s government relations and strategic communications practice, and now in a dedicated focus on innovation at the firmwide level.
"This is not innovation for its own sake," Stuckey said. "Every initiative I undertake as CIO will be measured by a single standard — whether it makes Gray Reed a better firm for our clients."
Stuckey is well positioned to deliver on that standard. In 12 years at Gray Reed, he has built a distinguished practice in the Business & Commercial Litigation Section, representing clients in complex disputes before state and federal courts. He knows the firm's lawyers and how they practice. He also knows the firm’s clients and what they need.
That inside knowledge, combined with two years on Gray Reed's AI Committee, hands-on experience deploying AI tools in active matters, and close relationships with companies at the forefront of enterprise-level AI development, means he can offer attorneys and clients practical, grounded guidance and ideas. A recognized thought leader in the legal AI space, Stuckey has spoken to audiences across the globe, including Houston AI, Leading Builders of America, and Lawyers Associated Worldwide. Importantly, Stuckey will serve in a hybrid role, continuing to serve clients in the firm’s Business & Commercial Litigation section. Staying actively engaged in cases will ensure Gray Reed’s innovation strategy always aligns with the realities of practice and client service.
"Skyler doesn't just understand these technologies — he has used them in real matters for real clients," Gray Reed Managing Partner Kyle Sanders says. "That experience, and his deep knowledge of our people and our practice, is exactly what this role requires and makes him uniquely qualified for it. Skyler has already spent over a decade working with the firm’s clients, who we know are also dealing with how AI might affect their businesses. By creating the Chief Innovation Officer position and appointing Skyler, we are making a deliberate investment in both the future of our firm and the capabilities we can offer clients."
As CIO, Stuckey will oversee firmwide initiatives designed to enhance the quality, efficiency, and responsiveness of the firm's services and operations across all practice areas and offices. His work will include incorporating enterprise level AI offerings, helping guide innovation efforts in each of the firm’s practice groups, and interfacing both internally and externally on modern legal development across the market. He will also help the firm navigate the risks inherent in adoption of new legal technologies, designing governance to protect client interests and policies to ensure responsible compliance.
"Gray Reed has been my home for over a decade, and it has taught me nearly everything I know about being a lawyer," said Stuckey. "We are at a genuinely exciting moment. AI is reshaping what legal service can look like, and we owe it to our clients to be at the front of that change. To have the opportunity to drive that effort here, for our clients, is something I do not take lightly, and frankly, I cannot wait to get started."
