Gray Reed Of Counsel Pat Souter has been elected to the Board of Directors of the American Health Law Association (AHLA).
AHLA’s mission is to deliver authoritative educational content and serve as a professional home for all who engage with health law. With 12,000 members, AHLA’s membership is diverse in both background and practice areas, spanning law and consulting firms, academic institutions, in-house roles and public sector settings. Members represent the full spectrum of the healthcare industry, including physicians, hospitals and health systems, health plans and health maintenance organizations, health insurers, life sciences companies, managed care organizations, nursing facilities, home care providers and consumers.
“AHLA has been an important part of my professional journey, and I am grateful for the opportunity to serve in this new role,” Souter says. “I look forward to contributing to the organization’s continued growth and supporting its members across the healthcare industry.”
Souter's practice focuses on transactional and administrative health care, corporate, securities, and antitrust matters. He is also a Professor of Healthcare Studies at Baylor University School of Law, where he oversees the health care law program, and teaches in the MBA programs at the Baylor University Hankamer School of Business. Board Certified in Health Care Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, he has been recognized by Chambers USA and Best Lawyers in America for his work in health care law. Within AHLA, Souter served as chair of the Physician Organizations Practice Group from 2022 to 2024 and has contributed as a co-chair of the Online Dispute Resolution Working Group and the State Associations Coordinating Council, in addition to his longstanding participation as a speaker, author, and mentor.
