Gray Reed Announces Matthew Childress as New Chief Growth & Operations Officer

After 15 Years Leading Day-to-Day Operations, Mark Gargiulo to Focus Exclusively on Advisory Services

Gray Reed today announced Matthew Childress is succeeding Mark Gargiulo as the firm’s new Chief Growth & Operations Officer effective June 16, 2025. Childress joins Gray Reed after serving as Chief Strategy Officer for Opportune, a highly regarded Houston-based global energy and advisory firm. As Gray Reed’s Chief Growth & Operations Officer, Childress will be responsible for driving strategic growth initiatives, operational excellence and infrastructure development across the firm's practice areas and client service delivery.

Prior to his leadership role at Opportune, Childress spent 10 years at PriceWaterhouseCoopers, where he was ultimately responsible for strategy, growth and infrastructure for a $4 billion account segment of the firm. Prior to joining PwC, he was Sr. VP, Managing Director and COO for Stonebridge Consulting providing advisory, technology and managed services to the energy industry.

Gray Reed Managing Partner Kyle Sanders said, “Matthew is the perfect candidate to lead our firm forward as our new Chief Growth and Operations Officer. He brings a wealth of experience and a strong focus on growth strategies as we look to him to further our strategic plan and continue to drive our firm forward.”

“Gray Reed is an exceptional law firm and has earned its reputation as one of the leading firms not just in the State of Texas, but in the country,” Childress said. “I appreciate the confidence they have shown in me and will do everything within my power to continue the juggernaut of success it has earned.”

After 15 years of dedicated service leading Gray Reed’s day-to-day operations, Mark Gargiulo is pivoting over to focus exclusively on Gray Reed Advisory, where he will continue to leverage his almost 20 years of his previous consulting experience. Gargiulo’s hard work and contributions can be seen throughout Gray Reed’s practice areas and his steadfast commitment to the firm has been crucial to its collective evolution, growth and success.
