Gray Reed Attorney and Texas State Rep. Jeff Leach Receives Committee Assignments for 88th Texas Legislative Session

On February 8, 2023, Gray Reed Of Counsel Jeff Leach, who is also serving his sixth term in the Texas House of Representatives, was re-appointed to serve a third term as Chairman of the House Judiciary and Civil Jurisprudence Committee by Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives Dade Phelan. He was also appointed to serve as a member on the House Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence.

“It is not lost on me the tremendous responsibility I have to lead the House Judiciary Committee to ensure the Texas Justice system is fair, open, transparent and reliable and a beacon for the rest of the Nation,” Leach said. “I look forward to locking arms and working diligently with my House colleagues and Committee members to strengthen the rule of law and to protect the Constitutional rights, freedoms and liberties of the Texans we are elected to serve.”

Since taking office in 2013, Leach has served on the House Committee on Economic and Small Business Development, the House Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence, the House Committee on Government Transparency and Operations and the House Committee on Rules & Resolutions. He has also served as Vice Chairman of the House Committee on Urban Affairs and was elected by his colleagues to serve on the Texas House Republican Caucus Policy Committee.

At Gray Reed, Leach’s practice is focused primarily in the areas of complex commercial and civil litigation, construction law and real estate. He serves as outside general counsel for general contractors and various other construction clients, handling everything from litigation and transactions to employment issues, regulatory compliance and taxation. He also frequently steps outside of his core practice and lends a hand to the firm’s other clients in a variety of special projects.

“In addition to being an effective advocate for his constituents and an asset to the state of Texas, Jeff has long been a valued resource for our firm and our clients,” Managing Partner Kyle Sanders says. "His re-appointment to serve as Chairman of the House Judiciary and Civil Jurisprudence Committee is well-deserved and we have complete confidence that he will work tirelessly to strengthen the Texas legal system in which our attorneys practice on a daily basis.”

Leach is a graduate of Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law and attended Baylor University for his undergraduate degree.
