Gray Reed Launches Blockchain and Digital Assets Practice

Gray Reed is proud to announce the addition of a Blockchain and Digital Assets Practice to its expansive list of practice areas.  Members of the practice have the knowledge and experience to help U.S. and international clients navigate complex regulatory frameworks, maximize tax efficiency, structure crypto-related transactions and resolve many types of controversies involving digital assets.

“The use of the blockchain, tokenization and digital assets is becoming more and more prevalent,” Gray Reed attorney and frequent author and speaker on blockchain-related topics Joshua Smeltzer says. “Our interdisciplinary team provides end-to-end capabilities to a wide variety of cryptocurrency investors and businesses, and we have the extensive resources necessary to handle government investigations and litigation from coast to coast.”

In recent years, the firm has seen an uptick in crypto- and blockchain-related work. For example, Gray Reed attorneys have assisted and advised clients with entity formation for multiple blockchain/crypto businesses, tax and reporting issues, and cryptocurrency-focused government inquiries, enforcement actions and litigation.

“Most of the practice’s members have been at the forefront of these unique issues since the early days so this is an exciting development for our firm,” Gray Reed Managing Partner Cary Gray says. “We are committed to keeping up with the evolution of digital assets and blockchain technology so we can effectively serve our clients.”

Several practice members also have significant backgrounds as former litigators for the Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission with first-hand knowledge of how regulators build and prosecute cases involving cryptocurrency assets, taxation, securities, fraud and related issues.
