Gray Reed Attorney Named Chair of the American Health Law Association’s Physician Organizations Practice Group

Gray Reed Of Counsel Pat Souter was appointed Chair for the American Health Law Association (AHLA)’s Physician Organizations Practice Group for the 2022 – 2024 term, effective July 1, 2022.

With more than 13,000 members, AHLA is the nation’s largest, nonpartisan, 501(c)(3) educational organization devoted to legal issues in the healthcare field. AHLA’s Physician Organizations Practice Group addresses issues encountered in physician-hospital joint ventures and contractual arrangements, credentialing practices, physician group practice structures, compensation methodologies and the professional liability insurance crisis.

A long time member of AHLA, Souter is involved with several practice groups and, over the years, has held several leadership positions with the Physician Organization Practice Group such as Vice Chair of Publications and Social Media Coordinator.

“The knowledge and relationships I’ve gained through my involvement in AHLA over the last nine years has been invaluable,” Souter says. “I look forward to serving as Chair of the Physician Organization Practice Group, working with its fantastic members and giving back to the organization that has given so much to me throughout my career.”

At Gray Reed, Souter’s primary areas of practice are related to transactional and administrative healthcare, corporate, securities and antitrust matters. 

He is also a Professor of Healthcare Studies at Baylor University School of Law where he oversees the healthcare law program and teaches Healthcare Law, Healthcare Fraud and Abuse and Regulation of Healthcare Professionals. Souter is also involved with the Robbins Institute for Health Policy and Leadership at the Baylor University Hankamer School of Business where he teaches Healthcare Law and Ethics in its M.B.A. in Healthcare Administration Program and Executive M.B.A. Program.

He is Board Certified in Healthcare Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and has completed the training by the American Health Law Association as a mediator and arbitrator.
