Two Gray Reed Tax Attorneys Selected for Leadership Roles for the State Bar of Texas Tax Section
Gray Reed Tax Partner David Gair was elected to the State Bar of Texas Tax Section’s Leadership Council and Tax Counsel Joshua Smeltzer was appointed as Vice-Chair of the Tax Controversy Committee. Both attorneys will serve in these roles for the 2021-2022 term.
Board Certified in Tax Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and Leader of Gray Reed’s Tax Controversy Practice Group, Gair focuses his practice on guiding businesses, high-net-worth individuals and tax professionals through all types of complex civil and criminal tax controversies, everything from audits and litigation to investigations and collection matters. Gair previously served on the Leadership Council in 2016 – 2019 and in other roles with the Section including Tax Controversy Committee Vice-Chair and Annual Meeting Planning Committee Member.
A former litigator for the U.S. Department of Justice Tax Division, Smeltzer focuses on defending individuals and all types of businesses in a variety of challenging tax controversies before the IRS, federal district courts, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, U.S. Tax Court and federal bankruptcy courts. He is a frequent speaker on various tax topics and is responsible for the firm’s Texas Tax Talk blog, a resource for developments, commentary and analysis relating to state and federal tax issues.
