Gray Reed Attorney Receives 2021 Honorable Nikki DeShazo Pro Bono Award

Gray Reed Tax Counsel Isreal Miller received the 2021 Honorable Nikki DeShazo Pro Bono Award, given by the Probate, Trusts and Estates Section of the Dallas Bar Association in a virtual ceremony on May 25, 2021.

The Honorable Nikki DeShazo Pro Bono Award recognizes an attorney who has enhanced the human dignity of others by improving or delivering volunteer legal services including but not limited to wills, trusts, estate planning, guardianships, elder law, probate matters, probate court dispute resolution and other legal services to persons of limited means, low income communities, disabled individuals, first responders, military personnel and other similar public servants in and around Dallas County.

At Gray Reed, Miller leads the firm's State and Local Tax Practice Group. He advises clients in state and local taxation matters and resolves related audits and litigation, primarily involving Texas sales and use tax, franchise tax and ad valorem taxes. He assists clients dealing with Texas Comptroller collection efforts including state tax liens, bank account freezes and seizures of assets. He also regularly advises clients on reporting and remitting unclaimed property and the recovery of unclaimed property. Miller routinely handles requests for penalty abatements, innocent spouse relief, and installment agreements with the Internal Revenue Service. He is Board Certified in Tax Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, a Certified Public Accountant, a Certified Financial Planner™ practitioner and a Personal Financial Specialist.

Miller primarily volunteers through the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program and the Dallas Bar Association's LegalLine.
