HOUSTON - Rotary International announced on March 13, 2009, that Gray Reed & McGraw Member Ben L. Aderholt is the recipient of its prestigious Global Alumni Service to Humanity Award for 2009.
The Global Alumni Service Humanity Award recognizes individuals who have contributed to greater understanding and peace through service to humanity, and whose significant achievements have enriched their profession or vocation. The award was presented by Mr. D.K. Lee of South Korea, the President of Rotary International.
In 1969, Mr. Aderholt was awarded the Rotary Ambassadorial Fellowship, allowing him to do graduate study for a year at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. Since then, he has practiced in both commercial litigation and corporate transactions including winning cases before the U.S. Supreme Court. In addition, Mr. Aderholt served as President of the Houston Bar Association and as a Director of the State Bar of Texas.
"My time as a Rotary Fellow significantly influenced my life, providing an opportunity to experience life in a completely different and dramatically changing country," Aderholt said. "Spending a year in South Africa gave me a deep appreciation of the importance of international education and friendships has played in the success of our democratic society. It has been an inspiration for my efforts to create other international educational opportunities for professionals."
