Gray Reed is proud to announce that Houston associate Austin Carlson is a graduate of the State Bar of Texas Tax Section Leadership Academy.
One of only 21 attorneys selected to participate, Carlson and his classmates attended four sessions, each held in a different city and focusing on a particular aspect of tax law.
The Leadership Academy is developed to assist the next generation of Texas tax lawyers with taking ownership of their careers by providing:
- Top-notch leadership training on client development, public speaking and getting the most out of your tax law practice
- Opportunities to get involved in the State Bar of Texas Tax Section leadership committees
- Networking opportunities with tax professionals throughout the state
- Educational programs on topics every successful tax lawyer should know (CLE credit provided for some topics)
As a licensed attorney and a Certified Public Accountant, Carlson’s practice focuses on corporate transactions, tax planning and controversy, and trust and estate planning. He works with domestic and international companies, small businesses and individuals to form corporations, LLCs, partnerships and non-profit entities, achieve their planning goals and successfully resolve their tax controversies with the IRS and state taxing authorities. Carlson also has extensive experience with the Offshore Voluntary Disclosure Program, including the streamline filing compliance procedures and assisting clients with all types of foreign account disclosure issues.
Carlson frequently gives speeches and presentations discussing tax issues to groups and organizations across the state including, Houston Society of CPAs, Texas Society of CPAs, State Bar of Texas, Keller Williams Realty, Texas Medical Center Accelerator (TMCx), Rice University Jones School of Business and University of Houston Law Center.
In addition, Carlson is an active member of multiple professional organizations including Texas Society of CPAs and Houston Society of CPAs, where he serves on the Boards of Directors, and the State Bar of Texas, where he has served as chair of the International Tax Committee.
Carlson received his J.D., with honors, from The University of Texas School of Law, and B.B.A. in Accounting and M.S. in Taxation from Texas A&M University. In 2015, he was recognized as a “Rising Star” by the Texas Society of CPAs.
