Texas Appellate Justice Jim Moseley Joins Gray Reed & McGraw

Seasoned Jurist with Broad Legal Experience
to Chair Firm’s Appellate Section

Justice Jim Moseley

(Dallas) – Gray Reed & McGraw today proudly announced that Justice Jim Moseley, who has served on Texas’ Fifth District Court of Appeals for 18 years, is joining the firm and will chair the appellate section. Moseley, 60, retires from the bench August 21 and joins Gray Reed on September 2.

Justice Moseley has authored almost 1,500 judicial opinions in all areas of civil and criminal law. As one of the 13 justices on the Fifth Court of Appeals, his jurisdiction covered the Dallas area including Collin, Dallas, Grayson, Hunt, Kaufman, and Rockwall counties.

Prior to his service on the Dallas Court of Appeals, Moseley practiced law in Dallas and Odessa for 14 years.  He also served four years as Regional Director of the Federal Trade Commission during the Reagan Administration.  There he was responsible for enforcing federal antitrust and consumer laws in a five-state area.  Moseley is a former Chair of the State Bar of Texas Antitrust & Business Litigation Section, and is an elected member of the American Law Institute.

“Jim’s unique experience, including his almost two decades on the Court of Appeals, has given him a broad understanding of what the law is, how it is changing, and the forces driving that change” said Gray Reed President and Managing Partner J. Cary Gray. “His integrity and the unique perspective he brings as a former judge will be a tremendous asset to both our attorneys and our clients.”

As a long-time appellate judge, Moseley knows the intricacies of appellate advocacy, as well as substantive legal areas that often result in litigation, such as contract, real estate, energy, corporate, product liability, and consumer law. Gray Reed sought him out for his seasoned viewpoint and his understanding of the big picture of law.

“I’m excited to join Gray Reed because I appreciate the thoughtful, strategic way they solve their client’s problems,” said Justice Jim Moseley. “By examining the client’s situation, identifying the available options, and efficiently pursuing the optimal remedy, they eliminate that ‘ready, fire, aim’ mentality I’ve seen too often from the bench. Gray Reed’s approach leads to cost-efficient, quality legal services and, most importantly, better results for their clients.”
